A Damper consists of a plate that stops or regulates the flow of air inside a Duct, Chimney, VAV Box, Air Handler or other air handling equipment. A Damper may be used to cut-off airflow to an unused room or to regulate conditioned air for room-to-room temperature and climate control.
Duct installed Dampers consist of various configurations to regulate airflow.
- Flat Plate Type or Butterfly Split Plate
- Opposed Louver Blade or Shutter Bar Type
- Power Open / Power Close or Power to Position / Spring Driven Return
Dampers are operated manually or automatic (motor driven). Manual Air Balancing Dampers are opened or closed by a handle outside the duct. Motorized Dampers are used to constantly regulate airflow and are operated by electric or pneumatic (Air Pressure) motors - each controlled by a thermostat or building automation system.
Pressure Relief Dampers are used on Duct applications. Typically they are used to balance duct pressure on HVAC systems which are utilizing multiple Zone Dampers. Relieves excess duct air pressure.
Iris Air Balancing Dampers utilize interlocking steel plates to create a circular aperture for precision airflow dampering control. The round aperture reduces air turbulence for quiet system operation. Iris Dampers are designed with pressure monitoring ports for determining pressure drop across the damper blades. They are available in Manual and Motorized versions.
